Welcome to the website of Wanganui Croquet Club Inc.

About us: Our club prides itself on being friendly and welcoming to players of all ages, from beginners to seniors. We are one of the largest croquet clubs in New Zealand, with eight croquet lawns set in a beautiful location that overlooks the township of Whanganui. Located on the northern side of Victoria Park on Parsons Street, we invite new members to come and join us for a game of croquet! The only equipment required is a mallet (the club has spare mallets for new members to use) and the only dress requirement is a pair of flat soled shoesTo encourage participation and competition, a handicap system is used so that players of differing abilities can play against each other. Golf croquet is offered on three club days per week: Wednesday (9am and 1pm), Thursday (1pm) and Saturday (1pm). The greens usually remain open at any time for members who wish to play.  A twilight session is currently available on Tuesday, commencing at 5.30pm with a finish time of 8.30pm.

The competition attracted a record 18 doubles teams, divided into three sections of six for round-robin play. Section B had clear winners (Dave Cohen & Brian Algar, 4-1), while Sections A and C winners were determined by net hoop counts after ties: Sherry & Wayne Pedley (Section A) and Tony Polkinghorne & Roger Bray (Section C) both finished 4-1. In the final round-robin, Tony & Roger defeated Sherry & Wayne 7-4, then beat Dave & Brian after a close start by winning five consecutive hoops.
